The Hood

For the chain itself, see Robinhood Chain. This entry is filed under Lore.

"The Hood" is the informal name attached to Robinhood Chain's community and naming culture, derived from the numeric coincidence that its chain ID, 4663, spells H-O-O-D on a standard telephone keypad. The nickname predates any official branding decision and is documented here as folklore, not as an announced identity.

The keypad coincidence

On a standard T9 telephone keypad, the digit 4 maps to the letters G-H-I, 6 maps to M-N-O, the second 6 again to M-N-O, and 3 maps to D-E-F. Reading the chain ID 4663 against that mapping yields H-O-O-D as one of several possible letter combinations — the one that happened to catch on.

This is presented as observed fact about how the nickname arose, not as evidence of deliberate chain-ID selection. Hoodpedia has no record establishing intent either way and does not assert one.

Naming culture

Projects launching on the chain have, with some regularity, adopted naming and branding that riffs on "the Hood" — a pattern of self-aware, community-driven branding rather than a top-down convention. This entry exists to record the pattern's origin for readers encountering it for the first time without the surrounding context.
